Ethale Publishing has been recognized as the winner of the National Award for Cultural and Creative Industries by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Mozambique.

This award is the result of a long-standing impactful effort that Ethale Publishing have been making to promote reading and knowledge in a country affected by a series of social, political, and economic challenges. Ethale is a Mozambican publishing house and creative agency leveraging African and diasporic narratives for social change. Ethale has collaborated with Fondazione Aurora since 2021 on various initiatives aimed at empowering young African students to produce knowledge about their realities, transforming the continent’s youth from mere consumers of knowledge into producers of knowledge.

Jessemusse Cacinda, one of the co-founder, after serving as the managing director of the publishing house, is currently pursuing his PhD in Sociology, specializing in Post-Colonialism and Global Citizenship, at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. According to him,

“Fondazione Aurora has been fundamental over the years, supporting Ethale Publishing so that it can develop its projects and help young Mozambicans change their destinies through reading and writing. In addition to collaborating on several projects, I was invited by Fondazione Aurora to visit Rome and Milan, where I met with key players in the book sector and learned about how the book industry works in Italy, a country that has contributed immensely to humanity’s literature and philosophy.”

The prize highlights Ethale’s pioneering efforts in Mozambique’s cultural sphere, celebrating its dedication to foster youth and readers who persist despite the country’s current challenges.
